JAG and NCIS Fan Festivals Generate Funds for the Society
Beginning in 2001, a group of loyal television viewers who adored the program JAG assembled at a hotel in California to meet other fans, collect items created by the fan groups/clubs for their favorite actor and get a peak of what happens during production of their favorite show. Besides having fun, their mission was to raise funds for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society through a silent and live auction involving JAG paraphernalia such as Commander “Harm” Rabb’s Navy hat, LtCol Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie’s uniform blouse, or a tour of the JAG set and lunch with the show’s cast. When JAG went off the air four years ago, the fans switched their allegiance to NCIS, falling in love with Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Ziva David, Anthony DiNozzo, Dr. "Ducky" Mallard, and Abby Sciuto. What never changed has been their commitment to raise funds for their favorite charity. As a result of their enthusiastic generosity, this small group has raised $97,561.89 from five JAG Fan Fests and three NCIS Fan Fests. I’m confident their 2009 event, conducted at Beverly Garland’s Holiday Inn in North Hollywood on September 24-27 will put this patriotic, benevolent group over the top of $100,000. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude. In recent years, Mike Hire, Director NMCRS Camp Pendleton, has joined in their festivities.
