Held on March 28, at the Washington Hilton and Towers, the 2009 Ball set a record in contributions and attendance. The Ball Committee raised $565,915.  More than 1,000 guests enjoyed the evening which featured music by elements of The President’s Own Marine Corps Band and elements of the U.S. Navy Band.  Guests of honor included Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, the Commandant of the Marine Corps (and the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society’s Chairman of the Board) General James T. Conway, USMC, Vice Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff, General James E. Cartwright, USMC, and Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Gary Roughead, USN. This annual event is enjoyable and successful because of the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment of the Navy-Marine Corps Ball Committee volunteers who dedicate countless hours to planning every detail — from decorations to menu selection; logistics to hospitality; program to contributions and publicity. Thanks to their platinum efforts and the consistent benevolent support of our corporate partners, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society will be able to improve the quality of life for our active duty and retired Marines, Sailors and their families.
