Held on April 5, at the Washington Hilton and Towers, the 2008 ball set a record in contributions. The Ball Committee raised $561,805. More than 1,000 guests enjoyed the evening which featured music by elements of The President’s Own Marine Corps Band and elements of the U.S. Navy Band.  Guests of honor included Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter, General James E. Cartwright, USMC, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Robert Magnus, USMC, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Admiral Gary Roughead, USN, Chief of Naval Operations. This annual event is enjoyable and successful because of the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment of the Navy-Marine Corps Ball Committee volunteers who dedicate countless hours to planning every detail — from decorations to menu selection; logistics to hospitality; program to contributions and publicity. Thanks to their platinum efforts and the consistent benevolent support of our corporate partners, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society will be able to improve the quality of life for our active duty and retired Marines, Sailors and their families.
